I’m looking to get started in heli’s. I’ve been into everything Rc cars, trucks and boat related for 40+ years and I feel now is a good time to try a heli. Would a simulator be a good way to start or (what I like to do more) buy a heli and jump right in?? I’m looking at OMPhobby M2 RTF or maybe a Goosky S2 RTF. Thanks for your time!

I did something similar about 20 years ago. It took about 6 hours of trying, before I could hold a hover and not crash in a simulator. Then I strapped on the training gear I rigged up on my fixed pitch el-cheapo heli, went out in my front yard, and successfully hovered it on the first flight. That 6 hours of crashing on the simulator paid off.

The OMP M2 is a very good heli. Far superior to a Blade. If I got back into helicopters, I would get one of those. I'm not familiar with the Goosky. I switch radio brands last year, and instead of replacing my Blade 230S, I just got out of helicopters. Probably just for a while and not forever, since even though I never flew 3D in a heli, it sure is fun just goofing off in scale-like flight.

Flying a heli will make you a better airplane pilot. And it you like challenges, you're gonna love trying to "Keep a marble on a flat glass plate", or "Juggle while standing on a bowling ball with one foot", which is what learning to fly a heli is like. Its fuuuuuuuun.

An airplane tends to, or "wants" to fly, if it is moving forward. A helicopter just beats the air into submission.
