I would like to join the Tiger Club,
I have Tiger 2 and 60 kits I have to build and I am currently working on retrofitting a wing on to a salvaged Tiger 2 fuselage. I had a Protege trainer which is basically a high wing Tiger 60. Unfortunately I lost it on it's 4th flight. Cant wait to get started on the 60 kit.

I have found that the only thing that flies better than the Tiger 2 is the Tiger 60! Let us know what engines you are putting in, and have fun!

Thanks for letting me in the group. I actually purchased the 60 a couple of years ago on the hunch that they may not be available much longer (before they were discontinued). I did the same for the Tiger 2.
Right now I have a Saito 100 and OS 91 on the shelf for the 60. I will have to purchase an engine for the "2". I will probably go with a Saito 62. As you can tell, I like 4 strokes.

I like the Tiger 2 (40) size better than the 60 size. The bigger one floats forever on landing, and it is more difficult to get to snap roll. I do like the way the 60 size looks in the air though!

I am working with a contact to make Tiger 2 and Tiger 60 canopies that would be made available to builders. I'm pretty sure no one is making them but if I missed that please let me know asap. To have these made, the makers need an original uncut canopies to assess cost and to make the molds. I have a Tiger 60 kit (w new uncut canopy) but I need an original uncut Tiger 2 canopy in order to have one reproduced. The original canopy will be sacrificed as part of the mold making process but I have gotten other plastic parts from this individual and they are outstanding. The cost of the mold making is approx. $100 each canopy and not sure who or how that will be covered, I may cover the mold cost myself as my contribution so saving these parts from further extinction. The rough estimate for the canopies would be $15-20 but that is TBD based on interest.
Please reply if you have a Tiger 2 canopy for sale or one to donate to the cause. If you donate the part you would get a reproduction in its place and I believe it would be higher quality. Also, let me know if you would be interested in purchasing either of these canopies as that will help make it happen.
Thanks - Greg

Seven years ago I announced I was building my second Tiger. It took me way longer than it should…
I modified it as per an old RCM article by Allan Alman.
Shortened wings, 1/4 of plans dihedral, enlarged Rudder, enlarged elevator, and a lot of power, article called for an OS 90 2 stroke I only had available a Saito 120… let’s see how it goes.

I'm back to working on my inherited Tiger 2. I found a canopy here https://www.aero-accessories.com and I had Callie's make the decals (sample below). I had a 3D printer make a the characters below. I'll heat Hobbes' arm and bend them to the correct position and if I have room I'll put Calvin in the rear seat. Both will be cut to length to fit and painted. A crouching Hobbes will be on both sides in the fuel tank area of the nose. The top wing will have Hobbes head on each wing tip with Hobbes Rules! in between. The bottom of the wing gets Calvin's on the wingtips with Calvin Drools in between. Tiger 2 will be on each side of the tail. Colors are orange and white with power proved by a Saito .50 Black Knight.

I'm hip deep in an antique sportscar I'm trying to get back on the road. I have been taking my 14 year old grandson up to the club field and he is learning to fly. He is about to buy his first airplane a never flown Apprentice 2 ARF with 2 radios and he is building a Midwest AeroStar under my supervision. I still haven't finished the Tiger 2 and have two airplanes to maiden.

This was my 3rd plane years ago, started as an ARF with a Supertiger 75.
It was recovered a few months ago and converted to electric with a used Potenza 60-3d 500KV motor.
This plane easily has over 100 flights on it.

Building my third Tiger 2 right now along with a CG Anniversary Cub and a scratch built QM .15 Cassutt. Been out of the hobby for nearly 30 years, feel like Rip Van Winkle. Where did everything and everyone go? There is not a single kit I can find still made! And even the arfs are stupid looking junk. And they call a glow engine a nitro motor! Never heard that ever before. All the hardware and building supplies gone, Monokote gone, balsa (thanks to wind turbines) difficult to impossible. Where did OS go? Where is YS Futaba?
Does anyone still make kits? Is everyone dead? What are flyers building these days? Does seem to be Outer Zone which is way cool!

The hobby has had some drastic changes in the last 10 to 15 years but if you take the time to look around and do a bit of hunting you can still enjoy the hobby. I buy or have cut a lot of short kits from Laser Design Services and The Balsa Workbench, they both cut from existing plans. Bob over at LDS resized a Ziroli Staggerwing down to 90 size and provided plans, really nice when you want something it a different size. Proctor Enterprises is still going strong with their kit production! There are two good laser cutters selling reproduction Top Flite Warbird kits, one in the USA (Plans Gone By LLC) and one in the UK (Plans Revived). They offer cockpit kits too! Old School Model Works is a great kit supplier as well. They make smaller kits and pilot busts. Old School has really done a great job of updating Ken Willard's Sunday Fighters. His construction system is almost idiot proof. The new owner of SIG is bringing kits back the only problem is he sells out fast. Spring Air retracts are back in production and a new company bought out Robart's retracts and has them back in production. Du-Bro is still going strong and you can buy direct from them. Du-Bro makes several sizes of Sanding bars like Great Planes made.

Thanks for the info, I am digging.
You know, for me, since a child the hobby had three areas of interest.
1. Building the model
2. Tuning, running the engine
3. Flying the model
And, wink, wink, a fourth:
4. Repairing the model
So, then electric arfs built in "some place" do nothing for me as they remove (1) and (2) leaving only the flying of a silly looking chunk of styrofoam with an electric motor which I find unfulfilling because I did not 1. build it or 2. tune it.
I do not get it. Makes no sense to me and I am very disappointed there are very few modelers left alive I guess.
I will get this Tiger 2 up and running, I hope I can duplicate it for a spare for the inevitable crash!

I am still out there flying the Phoenix Tiger ARFs. They fly just like the old Goldberg kits I used to build and they are real time savers. Have thousands of flights on the first Phoenix Tiger 2 I bought back in 2016 or so. Built a few scratch-built planes over the past decade but have slowed down with building over the past 2 years due to other interests taking up my time and money!

You can get a full short kit and I imagine Rob will sell parts as well here: https://www.balsaworkbench.com/?prod...er-2-short-kit

Yes, thanks. I have ordered a short kit and I also found a kit on eBay ($) but went ahead and splurged. Also bought the ARF copy from Horizon as a beater to get myself back up to speed on flying RC. I will probably strip the covering from the ARF and recover in something that does not look childish. Maybe after the first crash
.Or maybe before.
I always built the Tigers as tailgear aircaft. Moved the MLG blocks forward of the spars with ply reinforcements.
